SPRUCE PINE, N.C. (Aug. 9, 2013) – Blue Ridge Regional Hospital introduces Bryan Murphy, MD, as the newest physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Murphy, a board-certified OB/GYN, is also certified in da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery. He is the recipient of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopist Award for Expertise in Minimally Invasive Surgery.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Murphy to Blue Ridge Regional Hospital,” said Oscar K. Weinmeister, III, FACHE, President and CEO of Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. “Dr. Murphy has extensive experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and will be a valuable asset to our Women’s Services department. His expertise in complex surgical procedures will allow us to better serve our patients, and that is our number-one priority.”
Dr. Murphy completed his residency and internship at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. He received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. Before joining Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Dr. Murphy practiced at OB/GYN Associates of Tullahoma in Tullahoma, Tenn.
“I was initially drawn to this area by my wife’s acceptance to an Appalachian State graduate program. In my search, I was amazed at the commitment and world-class quality that Mission Health, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, the local physicians and other healthcare providers make toward meeting the medical needs of this community and western North Carolina, “ said Dr. Murphy. “I became a physician and OB/GYN to help women maximize their health and thus enjoyment from life. I feel that in this community and with the support of the healthcare team I have witnessed, I can achieve that goal daily. I look forward to making friends in the community and calling this area home.”
In his free time, Dr. Murphy enjoys hiking, biking and kayaking. He also enjoys cooking, building furniture and spending time with his family and friends.
