Press release from Enroll America:
Tuesday night, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced it would extend the initial December 15 deadline to enroll in Affordable Care Act coverage that begins on January 1, until December 17. North Carolinians who want their new coverage to begin on New Year’s Day must enroll through the Health Insurance Marketplace by 11:59 p.m. PST December 17 (or 2:59 a.m. North Carolina time December 18). For consumers who need to renew their coverage, this is also the deadline to choose a plan so they don’t experience any gap in coverage as the new year begins.
Free in-person enrollment assisters are available across the state to help North Carolinians explore their health care options before the deadline. People can also schedule appointments by calling 1-855-733-3711 or visiting www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector.
Enroll America’s North Carolina Organizing Director Aaron White said the deadline extension is great opportunity for North Carolinians to get covered.
“We talked to some worried consumers who missed the deadline yesterday,” White said. “The extension is good news to them because they now have more time to enroll. And they’ll be able to start the New Year with peace of mind knowing that in an event of an accident they would be covered.”
