Hendersonville, N.C. (March 8, 2012) – Park Ridge Health hosted nearly 1,000 runners, joggers and walkers from all over the Southeast for the 20th Annual Frostbite 5k, 10K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, making it the largest turnout at the event in its 20-year history. The family-friendly race welcomed runners of all ages: Participants ranged from ages 5 to 89. Charles Dotson of Lake Junaluska, N.C., was the oldest participant.
More than $28,000 was raised through the 20th Annual Frostbite to benefit Park Ridge Health’s Wellness On Wheels (W.O.W.) community program. The W.O.W. Mobile Medical Unit provides free screenings and health counseling to patients at more than 160 locations throughout the Hendersonville area each year. Approximately 25 percent of all clients screened through the W.O.W. program been identified as being at risk for developing heart disease, stroke, prostate cancer, osteoporosis or diabetes.
Overall winners of the Frostbite 5K were Matthew Morse and Leah Nicholson, both of Asheville, with times of 15:44 and 19:08, respectively. Masters winners of the 5K race were Scott Laws of Arden, with a time of 16:39, and Jodi Antinori of Burnsville, with a time of 22:19. David Workman of Hendersonville and Valeria Brightbill of Knoxville, Tenn., came in first overall in the 10K race with times of 34:45 and 38:09, respectively. Masters winners of the 10K were Brad Dellinger of Spruce Pine, with a time of 39:54, and Katie Katalin of Colorado Springs, Co., who finished at 43:49.
