Pisgah Wildlife Education Center hosts free family event on Sept. 22

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will host a free, family-friendly event celebrating fishing, hunting and wildlife conservation on Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education in Brevard. The event is one of three events that the Commission is offering across North Carolina to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day.

The event offers a variety of activities and exhibits for all ages and skill levels, including fly-fishing and fly-tying, a pellet range, outdoor cooking and more. The Center has partnered with the Federation of Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, N.C. Trappers Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Fish & Wildlife Conservation Council and the N.C. Falconers Guild to host this year’s National Hunting and Fishing Day event.

The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is located near Brevard, just south of Asheville, alongside the Davidson River in Transylvania County. It features nature trails and five large aquariums representing different aquatic habitats. Visitors to the center can walk next door to the Bobby N. Setzer Fish Hatchery, where trout are raised in 54 raceways. The center’s hours of operation are 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m., Monday through Saturday from April through November and Monday through Friday from December through March.
