RALEIGH – A session of the N.C. House of Representatives has been scheduled for 2 p.m. today, causing the delay of a previously scheduled Judiciary Committee meeting at the same time that includes a public hearing regarding H947, the Eugenics Compensation Program bill. The bill currently has 53 co-sponsors in the House and 18 in the Senate.
The Judiciary Committee hearing is now scheduled to immediately follow the House session in Room 544 of the Legislative Office Building, 330 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh. Since it is impossible to predict an accurate start time, interested attendees may wish to take their seats around 2 p.m. as planned.
As soon as it begins, the event will be streamed live online by WRAL; it also will be archived at that link. Additionally, audio from the session may be heard online via the N.C. General Assembly website.
The legislative hearing will occur 11 months to the day that sterilization victims and advocates first gathered for a Listening Session organized by the N.C. Justice for Sterilization Foundation.
