Gary Hoffman is one of the outstanding cellists of our time, combining instrumental mastery, great beauty of sound, and a poetic sensibility. Mr. Hoffman gained international renown upon his victory as the first North American to win the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris in 1986. A frequent soloist with the world’s most noted orchestras, he has appeared with the Chicago, London, Montreal, Toronto, San Francisco, Baltimore and National Symphony Orchestras as well as the English, Moscow and Los Angeles chamber orchestras, the Orchestre National de France, the Netherlands and Rotterdam Philharmonics, the Cleveland Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra.

Called “a pianist’s pianist” by The New Yorker, Cecile Licad’s artistry is a blend of daring musical instinct and superb training. Her natural talent was honed at the Curtis Institute of Music by three of the greatest performer/pedagogues of our time: Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski. As a highly regarded chamber musician, she has performed regularly with such ensembles as the New York Chamber Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Guarneri Quartet, Takacs Quartet, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Ms. Licad has also appeared as guest soloist on tour with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Leipzig, Hamburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne, among other European cities.

For more than a half a century the ACMS has taken its place as a valued cultural resource in Asheville, bringing world-renowned chamber artists to the city. As one of the nation’s oldest continuously-performing chamber music organizations, it has been recognized for its outstanding programs as well as its unique education component through a collaboration with the strings program of the Asheville Buncombe Schools and other cultural partners in the community, including the Asheville Young Musicians Club.

Tickets to the benefit concert featuring Gary Hoffman with Cecile Licad are $40. To purchase tickets or for more information please visit the ACMS website: www.ashevillechambermusic.org
