Press release from UNC Asheville:
As part of its ongoing commitment to student success and community support, UNC Asheville is proud to announce a Summer 2025 Tuition Grant aimed at helping students stay on track for graduation. This initiative, with the generous support of the North Carolina General Assembly, is designed to provide financial assistance to UNC Asheville students, whose degree progress may have been affected by Helene, and offer an opportunity to catch up, stay on track, or get ahead in their academic journey.
The Summer 2025 Tuition Grant will cover the cost of up to two summer courses at the in-state tuition rate — $171.75 per credit hour with a maximum of $1,374 per student. The grant applies to in-person, online and summer study abroad courses taught by UNC Asheville faculty, providing flexibility for students with diverse needs and schedules.
“Summer courses are a valuable opportunity for students to accelerate their progress toward graduation or recover from setbacks,” said Yvonne Villanueva Russell, UNC Asheville’s provost. “By offering this tuition grant, we are giving students the opportunity to continue their education uninterrupted, especially those who have been impacted by Helene.”
The grant will be available to all current degree-seeking students, regardless of other grants or financial aid they may receive. However, courses must meet Course Program of Study (CPoS) requirements, meaning they must satisfy a graduation requirement for the student’s academic program. While the grant covers tuition costs, it does not cover fees, housing, or other associated expenses.
UNC Asheville provided tuition grants for the Spring 2025 semester, as well as several need-based grants related to storm recovery in the Fall 2024 semester.
