VA hosts Walk and Roll 2K to support homeless veterans

From U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs:

VA Walk and Roll to Support Homeless Veterans, Promote Health and Exercise

ASHEVILLE – The Charles George VA Medical Center will host the 6th Annual VA2K Walk and Roll on May 18 at Warriors Cairn at 11 am – 2 pm. The VA2K Walk and Roll is dedicated to supporting homeless Veterans while also encouraging healthy activity. VA employees and Veterans join to collect donated items and promote health and exercise.

“Healthy employees are happy workers. VA2K is a great way for our staff to take a few minutes out of their day to improve their personal health and get some exercise,” said Medical Center Director Cynthia Breyfogle. “We want to continue our success and get as many people moving as possible. Last year, VA raised donations worth more than $325,600. This year, we’ll try to do even better.”

The Charles George VAMC event is just one of approximately 200 VA2K events taking place May 18 at other VA facilities across the country. While not required to participate, a donation is an excellent opportunity to support VA and its initiative to end homelessness among Veterans. Recommended donations include:

· Kitchen Items
· Small Appliances
· Bathroom Items
· Cleaning Items
· Basic Tools
· Camping Supplies
· Winter Clothing

Donations can be submitted to the medical center’s Voluntary Services department located on the 4th floor of building 47 before or on the day of the event at the Voluntary Services Office For additional information and event details, please contact the local VA2K coordinator, Ward Price at Ward.Price@va.gov or VHAASHVoluntary@va.gov.
