Press release from the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe County:
Why Democracy Matters
The League of Women Voters, North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections, AFL-CIO-NC, Center for American Progress, Democracy North Carolina, Institute for Southern Studies, NAACP-NC, NC League of Conservation Voters, and NCPIRG invite you to attend a special forum entitled “Why Democracy Matters.” At the heart of democracy is a simple but powerful idea: One person, one vote. But in North Carolina and across the country, new voting restrictions, growing special interest influence and politically-influenced redistricting havne thrown up barriers to participation and diminished the voice of ordinary voters.
Speakers will include: Brian Ball, AFL-CIO NC Teamsters Local 61; Billy Corriher, Center for American Progress and Melissa Price Kromm, North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections.
We hope you can join us for this important conversation!
Thursday, February 25th
6:30-8:30 pm, Dr Wesley Grant Center
285 Livingston St, Asheville
Open to the public!
Democracy does NOT matter BECAUSE we are NOT a democracy! STOP perpetuating the MYTH! STOP IT! and tell your government screwls the same thing!
