WNC Alliance: Tell Gov. Perdue no fracking in NC

Here’s a few excerpts from the Western North Carolina Alliance’s June 27 email newsletter:

Tell Gov. Perdue: NO fracking in N.C.!

Legislation to legalize fracking in North Carolina is now in the hands of Gov. Bev Perdue.

On June 21, the N.C General Assembly passed S820 to develop regulations for the method of gas drilling called “fracking.”

According to the Associated Press, a spokesman for the governor said Perdue has received more than 7,000 emails and nearly 2,500 phone calls that are “overwhelmingly” against fracking.

Fracking involves injecting a drilled well with chemicals, water and sand at high speeds to crack shale rock and release natural gas. In other states where fracking has occurred, residents have reported spills and fumes, health problems, contaminated tap water, sick and dying animals, earthquakes, and other problems.

Perdue is our only chance to stop the fracking bill.

Please call her and tell her to veto S820!
