From a press release:
Youth OUTright Prom, with DJ Abu Dissary, May 24
Be prepared to dance your heart out when DJ Abu Disarray adds the pump and saucy to Youth OUTright’s annual prom. This year, the prom is aptly named, “It’s YO Prom: Be Fabulous,” and the fun takes place at Asheville’s Toy Boat Community Arts Center, 101 Fairview Avenue, on Saturday, May 24, from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 (or pay what you can), for LGBTQ youth and their straight allies, ages 14-23.
Beginning his rise to party king with a stint on pirate radio (the movement that brought airwaves back to local communities), DJ Abu Disarray (aka Kent Mettle) has a music library that spans one hundred thousand songs. “I have very rarely been unable to fill a request.” He spins dance, disco, new wave, electro, and more.
DJ Abu Disarray got his start doing benefits and fundraisers, and there’s no cause nearer and dearer to his heart than the plight of LGBTQ youth.“Working with Youth OUTright on this event and hanging out with the kids has been amazing,” he said.
Every year, LGBTQ youth struggle to find a place for themselves in their schools and in their homes. Youth OUTright provides a safe haven for these youth to realize they are not alone and to build their community in a way that enriches themselves, their friends, and their families.
Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc., a 501c-3, not-for-profit organization, offers discussion groups and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 14 through 23. Topics and activities are led by two trained facilitators.
