Video: UCI Cyclocross races take over Hendersonville

Kerry Werner (leading) racing his way to a top finish.

This past weekend marked the 10th anniversary of the North Carolina Grand Prix cyclocross races.  The back-to-back races are part of the North Carolina Cyclocross series and offer elite-level racers an opportunity to earn points toward their international ranking (the UCI Ranking).  As a result, we typically see competition traveling from all parts of the country in an effort to grab those oh-so-important points.  Lees McRae graduate — and Banner Elk native — Kerry Werner, took the win on both days in the professional men’s race, while BethAnn Orton doubled up in the women’s professional field.

If you have never witnessed a cyclocross race in person, see the below video created by The Adventure Collective.  It is an entertaining, spectator-friendly affair and packed full of intense bicycle racing.

Below is an interview with the men’s elite / professional winner, Kerry Werner, following Sunday’s race.  Video thanks to Eric Crews, Land of Sky Media.
