Local writer Cecil Bothwell will be at Malaprop’s tonight (Thursday, Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. to read from and answer questions about his new book, Pure Bunkum: Reporting on the Life and Crimes of Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Lee Medford.
The first half of the book covers Bothwell’s investigations into Medford’s corruption, while the second half details the trial of Medford and former reserve Capt. Guy Penland on corruption charges. Both Medford and Penland were convicted on all counts and given 15 and five year sentences, respectively.
Bothwell will do also do a reading at Accent on Books on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m.
Xpress’ coverage of Medford can be found here. For more on the new book, visit Bothwell’s blog.
