Live videocast of TEDx Asheville event here

Mountain Xpress is teaming up with several partners to bring you a live video Web stream, as well as a live audio stream, of tonight’s TEDx Asheville event right here.

For the videocast, Xpress is teaming up with David Bourne and his Bourne Media crew. For the live audio feed, Xpress will be linking to the Web stream offered by Asheville FM audio experts. For general Internet access and all-around great hospitality, the Xpress is working with the Orange Peel, which is hosting the event. If you prefer a few tweets about the event instead of audio or video, follow the XpressTwitter feed.

It will all start at 7 p.m. tonight (Sunday, Aug. 30) and go until 11 p.m. Check back for the videocast.

TEDx Asheville will put some of Asheville’s big thinkers on stage for 18-minute presentations. It is organized by a local fans of the annual California-based conference known as TED (which stands for technology, entertainment and design) wo got together and decided to stage their own event.

The line-up of speakers includes David McConville, co-founder of The Elumenati, an Asheville design and engineering company that creates custom immersive environments such as domes; Drew Jones, a specialist in systems dynamics and climate-change modeling who is program director for the Vermont-based Sustainability Institute; Dee Eggers, an environmental studies professor at UNC Asheville; Robert Zimmerman, whose Web development company has created sites for illustrators and art directors; and Caroline Yongue, a home-funeral educator who talks about end-of-life transitions.

There’s plenty of entertainment mixed in the four-hour event, with musical acts, poetry and a couple of surprises.

Here’s more about the independently organized TED events from the organization:

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
