Letter: Perfect Asheville Monday

Graphic by Lori Deaton

I just have to share my perfect Asheville Monday: eating a Harmony Bowl at Laughing Seed on Wall Street and reading Jerry Sternberg‘s column in Mountain Xpress.

I want to encourage all my Asheville friends who have been disparaging downtown to please come back. It’s beautiful and clean, and you need to be part of all this. We are truly blessed.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Susan, and the people who truly built clean, green Asheville will welcome the next generation of positive energy generators who will rather light a candle than curse the darkness.

It is also incredibly expensive. Too many have been priced out of its restaurants, stores, etc.

    • Shultz!

Nah, it ain’t too bad. Take the bus downtown $1. Walk over to McCormick field for dollar dog night to watch the Tourists & get your dog on – $11 General Admission + $12 for hot dogs & a beer. Take the bus home, $1. Heck of a good time for $25!

Try that in a big city…we have it pretty darn good :-)

Gave it a try this monday morning to find out that City Bakery is permanently closed. Bummer. Big hotel across the street and still couldn’t make it.

Headed up to High Five with my out of town guest who lives downtown in a big east coast city and she said Asheville smells like pee.
