With all the attention being paid to the contest between McCain and Obama, WNC voters may easily forget that we have an important race to decide for one of the state’s two U.S. Senate seats. Elizabeth Dole has been a disappointing senator, voting 92 percent of the time for the Bush/Cheney policies that have brought our country and state to the current crisis.
State Sen. Kay Hagan has a 10-year record of fighting for the people of North Carolina. She has been a longtime advocate for expanding educational opportunities by increasing teacher pay and funding for colleges and universities. She has supported dropout-prevention programs and ways to make college more affordable. Kay has worked to expand health-care coverage and make it more affordable for N.C. citizens. She co-sponsored a bill to expand coverage to 1.3 million uninsured North Carolinians, and supported the 2008 budget increasing N.C. Health Choice enrollment to a total of 129,694 children.
We need a senator in Congress who will work for the people of North Carolina. I urge you to vote for Kay Hagan for U.S. Senate.
