Comedian Matt Fernandez performs at The Grey Eagle, Aug. 21

PRESS RELEASE FROM EVENT ORGANIZERS:

The Grey Eagle presents an Evening of Comedy, Sunday, August 21, featuring nationally known comedian Matt Fernandez and guest appearances by local comics Rigel Pawlak, Nick Taylor and Zane Mitchell. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show. Showtime is 7 pm.

No one can accuse Matt Fernandez of being “politically correct.” His brand of comedy is a take-no-prisoners approach. “There’s no subject I don’t talk about,” he says, “and I don’t hold anything back. I don’t worry about offending anybody.”

Originally from Tampa, Matt has performed with some of the biggest names in comedy (Doug Benson, Aziz Ansari, Jim Jefferies, and Bill Burr to name a few). Matt has written articles for College Humor and Playboy. He’s a Second City alum, and has been featured on Sirius XM Radio and Rooftopcomedy.com.

Matt was named one of the fifteen funniest comedians on Twitter by funnyordie.com. His tweets have been featured on Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Today Show. Throw into the mix performances at the Funny or Die Oddball Comedy Festival, SLO Comedy Festival, Crom Comedy Festival, Laugh Your Asheville Off, universities, clubs, and theaters throughout the country – along with his disheveled appearance – and it all adds up to a riveting brand of irreverent comedy.

Matt is no stranger to Asheville. He admits a fondness for the city. “I spent five days here last time, and I fell in love with downtown, its people, the wind chimes and little knick knacks. It’s good to be coming back,” he says. “I’m happy to be able to work with the local comics, as well. It feels good being able to do that.”

Local comics in the show are Nick Taylor, Rigel Pawlak, and Zane Mitchell.

Nick Taylor got his start in comedy by pursuing Toastmasters public speaking events and becoming a finalist in the 2013 Humorous Speech Contest. Nick is the kid you wrote off in high school thinking he was too weird. However, when listening to him, it’s evident that he’s interesting, misunderstood, random, and he thinks differently.

Rigel Pawlak performs throughout the town of Asheville and across the world doing burlesque, belly dance, clowning, puppetry, standup, and more. His standup style is irreverent and pun-heavy. Learn more at http://RigelPawlak.com

Zane Mitchell is co-creator, producer, and performer for Greenville’s only brunch comedy show, The Mimosa Funniest People You Know. He has a high passion for comedy, performing on stages throughout the southeast. His abstract ideas and quick one-liners are sure to make you laugh.

The Grey Eagle is located in the Asheville River Arts District at 185 Clingman Avenue. Call 828-232-5800 or purchase tickets through the event page: http://www.thegreyeagle.com/event/1265245-evening-comedy-matt-asheville. This event is for ages 18 and over.
