Video roundup: Locals take the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’

Over the last few weeks, a range of local notables have been participating in the “Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Started by the nonprofit ALS Association to raise money and awareness to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a lethal disorder also know as Lou Gehrig’s disease, participants agree to be dumped with a bucket of ice water. In the process, they challenge others to donate to the association or opt for the freezing dousing.

As of  Aug. 21, the ALS Association had raised $41.8 million since the creative marketing campaign started July 29. That’s compared to $2.1 million during the same period last year.

Anyone active on social media recently has probably noticed videos of the ice bucket spectacles marked with the hashtag #icebucketchallenge.
