From a press release:
Brevard Music Center launches Monday concert series, Oct. 6
The Brevard Music Center (BMC) opens the 2014-15 season of its First Mondays concert series on Monday, October 6. BMC is pleased to continue its successful partnership with Brevard College in presenting free concerts to the community. Performances will take place at 12:30 PM on the first Monday of each month from October through May (excluding January 2014) in the Scott Concert Hall at Brevard College’s Porter Center for Performing Arts.
Performers will include members of the BMC artist faculty as well as other classical musicians from throughout the country. “We are excited to welcome back some familiar faces this season, including Steve Cohen, Craig Nies, Marjorie Bagley and Alistair MacRae. In addition, we are pleased to present a few of our newest members of the artist faculty such as percussionist Gwendolyn Dease,” said Jason Posnock, BMC Director of Artistic Planning and organizer of the First Mondays series. “We have a wonderful variety of programs this season including solo piano, a percussion concert, and a soprano and cello duo.”
The Music Center is proud to continue its highly successful program of partnerships with local charities to highlight the challenges and needs facing the entire community. 2014-15 partners include The Haven, Rise and Shine, WCCA/ Silvermont, Friends for Life, Boys and Girl Club, Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, Meals on Wheels, and Brevard Ballet. Select concerts will offer the chance for audience members to learn more about these charities and provide support through on-site donation stations. BMC President Mark Weinstein spoke of the initiative: “The First Mondays concerts bring great music to our local and regional audience members who are with us year-round. They are of and for the community. There is no better stage to share our common needs and give everyone the opportunity to make a difference.”
New for 2014-15, BMC will also partner with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) to present ‘Sundays with Brevard Music Center’ at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNC Asheville. Afternoon performances will take place on the Sunday immediately prior to the First Mondays concert in Brevard.
