While most of Asheville and the surrounding area is aware of the soulful chill-wave awesomeness that is RBTS WIN’s 2013 release, Palm Sunday. But sometimes new levels of understanding come from seeing (or, in this case, hearing) a thing from different perspectives. Enter Palm Sunday: The Remixes, including an especially spine-tingling version of the single, “Death Magic,” by Seattle/Oakland-based glacial hip-hop makers Young God and Kingston, aka Blue Sky Black Death. That remix recently premiered on Noisey/Vice Magazine.
“While the tag ‘instrumental hip-hop’ could still be applied nominally, the duo’s appreciation of post-rock, shoegaze and prog-rock makes for a daring sonic blend far removed from the repetitive loops and structures traditionally associated with this genre,” says Blue Sky Black Death’s bio. They’ll join RBTS WIN as part of the ALIGNING MINDS Presents: WAVEFORMS 2.0 series at Asheville Music Hall on Saturday, Oct. 18. 10 p.m., $12 advance/$15 day of show.
