Surrealist musician Col. Bruce Hampton sandwiches his Asheville show between two runs of exotic dates. First, Jam Cruise takes him to Miami and Costa Maya, Mexico. Then he’ll do four dates in the Dominican Republic as part of Panic En La Playa. Not a bad life for a touring musician and Hampton — also an actor, magician and artist, according to his website — has been going on the road since 1963. His most recent release is In the Pharoah’s Kitchen of which Creative Loafing said, “The singer, songwriter, guitarist and auteur coalesces many of his past musical strains successfully into a nine-track, 36-minute album that flows with surprising ease, channeled through his charmingly offbeat and eclectic mindset.” Hampton and The Madrid Express take the stage at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 9 p.m. The Blood Gypsies also perform. $12 advance/$15 at the door. isisasheville.com.
