Mission Health Named a Top 15 Health System in the Nation by Truven Health Analytics
Health System’s Focus on High Quality, Cost Effective Care Earns Top Ranking for Unprecedented Fourth Consecutive Year
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (April 20, 2014) – For an unprecedented fourth consecutive year, Mission Health has been named one of the nation’s Top 15 Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics. The Truven Health study identifies the nation’s 15 best health systems and is the only study that aggregates both individual hospital and health system-level performance to allow health system leaders and consumers to understand how to identify and compare leaders in clinical quality and efficiency.
“This ranking recognizes our unwavering commitment to exceptional care, clinical excellence, standardization of care and, most importantly, to the community we are so privileged to serve,”said Ronald A. Paulus, MD, President and CEO of Mission Health. “Our dedicated and flexible caregivers, nurses, physicians and Boards of Directors are the reason we have been able to achieve such a remarkable honor not once, but for four consecutive years – something never before accomplished by any health system in the nation. We strive to exceed patients’ expectations and work as a team to improve every aspect of the care we provide to the people of western North Carolina. This relentless focus on quality, safety and standardization has resulted in better survival rates – more than 500 fewer deaths per year than in 2010 – and fewer complications for the patients we are privileged to serve.”
Mission Health outperformed others by saving more lives and causing fewer complications, following industry-recommended standards of care more closely, making fewer patient safety errors and scoring better on overall patient satisfaction. In each and every category, Top Health Systems outperformed their peers from around the nation.
Truven Health’s analysis contained more than 300 health systems – essentially every U.S. system with two or more acute-care member hospitals, including critical access hospitals. The quantitative study identifies 15 health systems with the highest achievement in clinical performance, efficiency and patient satisfaction using the 100 Top Hospitals National Balanced Scorecard methodologies, which analyzes data submitted by every hospital in a standardized manner. Truven’s researchers analyze public information — Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.
In March, Mission Health’s flagship hospital, Mission Hospital, was named one of Truven Health’s Top 100 Hospitals for the seventh consecutive year, and in December, Mission Health’s Heart Center was named among Top 50 Heart Hospitals for the 9th time.
