Asheville School of Film is pleased to announce its next FREE student film screenings on Sunday April 24th, at 11 am, at Asheville Pizza and Brewing, 675 Merrimon Ave, Asheville. Films shown will include Happy Place, Faces, Patriarch, and a Troy and Sons Commercial. No fee or tickets are required, but patrons are encouraged to stay for lunch or a movie.
In addition to the routine Film 101, 201, and 301 courses, a unique series of Film History and Appreciation seminars will begin on Friday May 6th, 6- 8:30pm. Renowned film historian Frank Thompson will lead an in depth discussion and expose on various Film Directors the first friday of every month! This first seminar will focus on the brilliant comedic endeavors of Woody Allen. Cost of the seminar is $30, and attendees are encouraged to pre-register through the website. Look for future collaborations with Grail Moviehouse on screenings of the featured director.
On Saturday May 7th, 2-6 pm, local filmmaker and entrepreneur Stephen Nadeau will discuss how to make a living in the film industry, including his experiences and recommendations. The Life After Film School seminar fee is $50, and will provide attendees with practical ideas on how to utilize their education and experience to the best of their abilities and do what they love- make films!
For those seeking a bit more detailed instruction, there will be two weekend workshops in May. The first is May 14-15th, from 10 am- 4 pm, An Introduction to Digital Editing. Learn the basics of digital editing as it relates to film and story. This course ($175) will explore the reasons behind particular cuts- how and why you would perform certain edits, what meaning or feeling they can impart, and how that can influence the story being told.
The second weekend workshop will be held May 21-22nd, 12p- 6pm on Documentary Filmmaking. This course is taught by experienced director and documentarian, Gary Donatelli, and will explore the art of non-fiction filmmaking through the secrets of capturing and telling a story that will captivate the audience. Cost for the weekend intensive will be $275.

Students who have completed one course with Asheville School of Film will be eligible for future class discounts of 20%.
