From Asheville Humane Society:
Petco Foundation Invests In Lifesaving Work of Asheville Humane Society
Grant of $60,000 will extend efforts to save more animal lives in Buncombe CountyAsheville, NC – Asheville Humane Society announced they have been awarded a $60,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support their spay/neuter and behavior programming. There will be a check presentation at Petco on Brevard Road this Friday, May 6 at 10:00 AM.
The Petco Foundation investment will help fund spay/neuter vouchers to yield an estimated 250 surgeries in an effort to reduce pet overpopulation. A large part of the grant also enables AHS to have an in-house behavior specialist. For more advanced behavioral concerns, a portion of the grant will allow AHS to consult with professional behaviorists to help shelter pets as well as pets within the community.
“Pet overpopulation and behavior are two main focal points for AHS. We are always thinking of new ways to keep pets in their homes where they are loved. By providing spay/neuter vouchers and behavior consults to the public, we hope to drastically reduce the amount of homeless and unwanted animals in Buncombe County. Our goal is to create a safe and healthy community for pets and their people to live and thrive together,” said Tracy Elliott, Executive Director of Asheville Humane Society.

For over 30 years Asheville Humane Society has been saving homeless Buncombe County animals. Today we operate both our own state-of-the-art Adoption and Education Center and the County’s only open door shelter where no local animal is ever turned away. We rescue, reunite, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused, injured and lost animals. We provide education, training and support to keep pets in their homes. Asheville Humane Society has earned the highest rating of Four Stars from Charity Navigator, a designation achieved by only 25% of all charities nationwide.About the Petco Foundation
At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $157 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 4.9 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
