Press release from Home Instead Senior Care:
Home Instead Senior Care, the country’s largest provider of in-home senior care services, has named Anna Belle Groseclose, of Leicester, the Mid-Atlantic CAREGiver of the Year. A caregiver in Asheville and surrounding areas for more than 10 years, Groseclose rose to the top among hundreds of candidates for this prestigious award and is one of eight nominees who will be considered for the national CAREGiver of the Year award later this week.
“I was floored. When they asked me to come to the office, I went in not knowing anything at all, and I was very surprised,” Groseclose said. “I just feel like it’s been really special to be involved with Home Instead. The office here has been wonderful to me, and accommodating to hours and schedules. I’m just so grateful for it.”
After pastoring with her husband early in her career, she went into the mission field for nearly 30 years. Upon returning to the United States, Groseclose sought a meaningful calling related to ministry, and found her way to Home Instead Senior Care.
Over the years, Groseclose has worked with nearly 130 seniors – some for several years, others just for a night. She says she is able to navigate even the most challenging situations by approaching each one with openness.
“I really depend on the Lord for grace and for help,” Groseclose said. “I don’t get frustrated very easily because I know that there won’t be anything more difficult than I can handle. And, of course, I find Home Instead so helpful and I know I can always go to the office if I ever need anything.”
For example, over the course of several months, Groseclose patiently persuaded one reluctant client to let her sort the disorganized paperwork and belongings in her home, which she said seemed to give her a client a regained sense of control over her life.
“We’re proud to honor Anna Belle for her commitment to her clients and compassionate service,” said Steven Coleman, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Buncombe, Henderson, Polk, Transylvania and Haywood Counties. “She represents the best of our organization and making a difference in the lives of seniors every day.”
Groseclose also has a unique ability to listen to her clients and learn what’s most important to them in their stage of life, Coleman added. For example, after learning that one of her clients loved to play the piano, Groseclose incorporated this into her visits, taking turns playing tunes and even singing hymns.
Groseclose becomes a finalist for the Home Instead Senior Care network’s “Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year” Award, the network’s top caregiving honor, which will be presented at the Home Instead Senior Care network’s annual International Convention in Omaha, Neb. on April 25, 2018. She is being recognized along with seven other regional CAREGivers of the Year from the United States and Canada who were selected from more than 65,000 Home Instead CAREGivers in North America. CAREGivers provide older adults with in-home care services such as companionship, personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, incidental transportation, errands and shopping, to help them remain independent at home or in care communities.
