Press release from Appalachian Mural Trail:
After 5 months of planning, preparation and painting, a new mural, ‘Maggie Valley, Seasons of Time’ is being unveiled. On October 15 at 2:00 PM at Joey’s Pancake House in Maggie Valley, NC the cover will fall from a 25 feet long mural that honors the unique shops and attractions that mingle with the beauty of flora and fauna in this lovely Appalachian valley.
“Maggie Valley is so picturesque, this mural seemed to paint itself,” says Doreyl Ammons Cain, the mural artist. “The mural has 18 birds, 11 butterflies and a whole swarm of honey bees camouflaged into the scenery for viewers to find. Local legends like Ghost Town amusement park, Maggie’s Mountaineer Crafts, the Stomping Ground and Wheels through Time Museum are represented in the mural along with many other icons of the town. It was quite a challenge to intermingle so many elements in one mural, yet the feeling of Maggie Valley was a goal worth working for! We have so much to feel proud of and honor in our Appalachian way of life.”
The unveiling event will also include the dedication of the Maggie mural to the Appalachian Mural Trail where it will be viewed by an international audience on an interactive website which will attract more visitors into Maggie Valley.
The Appalachian Mural Trail encircles the Blue Ridge Parkway and draws in visitors to the towns and communities where 63 public cultural murals are located, helping the economy through increased tourism and the employment of artists. Appalachian Gateway cities and towns are also being included on the mural trail. Cities surrounding the Blue Ridge area such as Rutherfordton, Hickory, Lincolnton and towns in Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia are welcome to the Appalachian Mural Trail.
More unique murals are coming soon! Up to five more new murals are being scheduled to begin and the Appalachian Mural Trail hopes to be on site to share the creative mural process with everyone at facebook.com/appalachianmuraltrail. The Appalachian Mural Trail is showcasing these historical murals through their interactive website, muraltrail.com, which webmaster, Jerry Cain is constantly improving to reach more and share with the world this amazing Appalachian art and spirit!
“Community Murals uplift the way we view our community and our culture,” says Cain. ” We are so pleased to have the ‘Maggie Valley, Seasons of Time’ mural placed on the Appalachian Mural Trail. Please join us for the unveiling on October 15!”
