7th Annual Asheville Marathon and Half at Biltmore Estate on March 16 & 17th

Press release from Asheville Marathon:

This year marks lucky number seven for the Asheville Marathon & Half and the only race of its kind at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Runners will get to explore the west side of the Estate, which is unique terrain only experienced in this marathon. Described as a boutique style race where everyone fits in, the Asheville Marathon and Half is a bucket list must do. In 2018, the Asheville Marathon was named by Outside Online as one of the Top 9 vacation-worthy marathons and The Top Ten Best Spring/Summer Marathons to Run by MapMyRun. We were also listed as one of the 70 American Road Races every runner should finish by Runner’s World Magazine. While other marathons and halves present you with monotonous scenes of asphalt, steel, and glass, the marathon course around Biltmore provide depth and diversification: from the marvels of gardening and architecture that is the Estate itself, to lesser tamed, more challenging stretches that lie at the end of the race, along the rustic banks of the French Broad River. Enjoy this boutique race with all it’s historic surroundings.

Joining the excitement this year, Founder of our Charity Partner, Brave Like Gabe, and Pro Runner Gabe Grunewald will be running the Half Marathon and speaking at the Pre-Event Dinner on Friday, March 15th.  Tickets are limited and can be purchased when registering and at the Asheville Marathon website.

Celebrating 7 Lucky Years – A History

The Asheville Marathon began 7 years ago with only a marathon option, which sold out quickly in its first year, and again the next year. A nationwide interest in half marathons was becoming popular, so for the 3rd year a half marathon option was added.  In the 4th year, the event expanded to two days of races and a half marathon on each day. To add a twist in the 5th year the Backyard to Vineyard Challenge was created, where participants race in the Saturday half and Sunday full. The challenge was very popular and for the 6th anniversary, Backyard to Backyard Challenge was added, where participants run both the Saturday half and the Sunday half. Now in its 7th year both days of races, including the challenges, are expected to be sold out, with 3,100 participants.
