BeLoved Asheville celebrates Latinx heritage months

The fall months offer times to reflect, remember, and celebrate Latinx Heritage.  BeLoved Asheville will offer a series of community celebrations, times to learn and remember Latinx history, enjoy our culture, and gather together in joy and to resist discrimination and the terrorizing of our community and the hate-filled false narratives used against us.

Ponkho Bermejo, Co-Director of BeLoved Asheville offers these words about this time of celebration:  “We are so excited to share many special events over the next few months teaching and learning about the history not taught here in the schools and the traditions that we don’t want to lose.  We are taking the responsibility to share who we are and the powerful legacy given by our ancestors.  There is much to celebrate about our culture and the tremendous ways that we contribute to this country and to our Western North Carolina home.”

Latinx Heritage Events in September:
Writers for Migrant Justice
September 4th (6 pm-7:30pm) BeLoved’s Liberation Station
A National spoken word event to lift up voices of poetic truth for Migrant Justice!

Indigenous Art Exhibition Opening Reception
September 13th (6-8pm)  BeLoved’s Liberation Station
Liberation Station will house pieces of authentic traditional art and clothing from Mexico and Guatemala.  The Opening will feature light refreshments and music.

One World Brewing celebrates BeLoved’s Latinx Organizing and Cultural Work
September 14th (5pm-12pm)  One World Brewing both locations
Celebrate & support BeLoved’s local and national advocacy, our Community Protection Network, our Proud to Be Brown initiative 10% of proceeds on that night will go to support this work!

Latinx History for Morons Documentary Screening
September 19 (5:30-8:00 p.m.)
John Leguizamo’s  standup special “Latin History for Morons” followed by a discussion and an enlightening talk from Ponkho Bermejo

International Day of Peace Rally
September 21st (3pm-7pm)  Rainbow School
BeLoved’s Co-Director, Ponkho Bermejo will be a featured speaker on the Peace Panel talking about the oppression of Immigrant communities and our need to be creating a world of peace & welcome!

Proud To Be Brown Proclamation
September 24th (5pm) City Hall
Asheville City Council will celebrate Asheville’s Latinx Heritage Month by making a proclamation written by our Proud to Be Brown group.  Come by BeLoved afterwards for food, celebration, and enjoying the Indigenous Art Exhibition!

Puerto Rico Celebration
Sept 27th (5:30-8:00 p.m.) BeLoved’s Liberation Station
Cooking and history lessons celebrating the fusion of
cultures in Puerto Rico.  Honoring the people’s movement in Puerto Rico & celebrating Puerto Rican Ashevillians.

BeLoved Asheville celebra los meses de la herencia latinx

Los meses de otoño ofrecen momentos para reflexionar, recordar y celebrar el Patrimonio Latinx. BeLoved Asheville ofrecerá una serie de celebraciones comunitarias, momentos para aprender y recordar la historia de Latinx, disfrutar de nuestra cultura y reunirse con alegría y para resistir la discriminación y el terror de nuestra comunidad y las narrativas falsas llenas de odio que se usan contra nosotros.

Ponkho Bermejo, codirector de BeLoved Asheville ofrece estas palabras sobre este momento de celebración: “Estamos muy emocionados de compartir muchos eventos especiales durante los próximos meses enseñando y aprendiendo sobre la historia que no se enseña aquí en las escuelas y las tradiciones que nosotros no queremos perder. Asumimos la responsabilidad de compartir quiénes somos y el poderoso legado que nos dieron nuestros antepasados. Hay mucho que celebrar sobre nuestra cultura y las tremendas formas en que contribuimos a este país y a nuestro oeste de Carolina del Norte. .”

4 de septiembre (6 pm-7: 30pm) BeLoved’s Liberation Station
¡Un evento nacional de palabras habladas para elevar las voces de la verdad poética para la Justicia Migrante!

Recepción de inauguración de la exposición de arte indígena
13 de septiembre (6-8pm) Estación de Liberación de BeLoved
Liberation Station albergará piezas de auténtico arte tradicional y ropa de México y Guatemala. La apertura contará con refrigerios ligeros y música.

One World Brewing celebra el trabajo de organización y cultura latinx de BeLoved
14 de septiembre (5 pm-12pm) One World Brewing en ambos lugares
¡Celebre y apoye la defensa local y nacional de BeLoved, nuestra Red de Protección de la Comunidad, nuestra iniciativa Orgulloso de ser Brown! ¡El 10% de los ingresos de esa noche se destinará a apoyar este trabajo!

Rally del Día Internacional de la Paz

El codirector de BeLoved, Ponkho Bermejo, será un orador destacado en el Panel de Paz que hablará sobre la opresión de las comunidades de inmigrantes y nuestra necesidad de crear un mundo de paz y bienvenida.

Orgulloso de ser marrón Proclamación

El Ayuntamiento de Asheville celebrará el Mes de la Herencia Latinx de Asheville haciendo una proclamación escrita por nuestro grupo Orgulloso de ser Brown. ¡Ven a BeLoved después para comer, celebrar y disfrutar de la Exposición de Arte Indígena!

Celebración de Puerto Rico
27 de septiembre (5: 30-8: 00 p.m.) BeLoved’s Liberation Station
Lecciones de cocina e historia celebrando la fusión de
culturas en Puerto Rico. Honrando el movimiento popular en Puerto Rico y celebrando a los ashevilianos puertorriqueños.
