David Burdette resigns as Asheville High School’s head football coach

Press release from Asheville City Schools:

After four seasons, David Burdette has resigned as Asheville High School’s Head Football Coach.

Burdette submitted his letter of resignation to the school following the end of the 2019 season. Although he will no longer be leading Asheville High School’s Football Team, Burdette will continue in his role as an Asheville High School Math Teacher.

An Asheville High School alumnus, Burdette has been dedicated to Cougar Athletics for more than 25 years. Throughout his coaching career, Burdette has led both the Junior Varsity Football and Softball Programs. He also coached baseball and was the Football Team’s Defensive Coordinator before being promoted to Head Football Coach in 2016.

“His leadership as a mentor to both our students and coaches has truly made a difference in our Athletics Program,” said Dr. Jesse Dingle, Principal of Asheville High School. “Although he’s leaving the Football Team, we know Coach Burette will continue his dedication to Asheville High School, and, for that, we are very grateful.”

Knowing how important this role is not only for Cougar Fans but more importantly for our student-athletes, Dr. Dingle’s goal is to have a new Head Football Coach in place as early as mid-February but no later than the beginning of Spring Practice.
