Letter: Try eating mor chikin on Merrimon

Graphic by Lori Deaton

In the humor issue, the article “Chicken Sandwich Smackdown” [Jan. 1, Xpress] pitted the famed chicken sandwiches from Chick-fil-A and Popeyes against each other. But the Xpress food editor, who wrote the article, doesn’t eat meat. Here’s an idea: Give the meat-eating food review task to one who eats meat.

She went to a drive-thru-only Chick-fil-A, and didn’t like that she had to eat her sandwich in her car with no fixin’s. Here’s another idea: Go to the Chick-fil-A on Merrimon, one of the busiest fast-food restaurants in town. Go on inside and read the menu. You can actually get that sandwich in a deluxe version with lettuce, tomato and some choice for cheese.

When you receive your speedy order from a friendly staffer, turn around and visit the condiment table, where you can choose from a variety of condiments, including mayonnaise. No one will ask your sexual preference at the door, nor do they care. All they do is chicken, and they do it very well. Keep a watch out the window and wonder at the speed of delivery for their dual drive-thru system. The sandwich may not change your mind over which is better, but I can guarantee you a much more satisfying experience.

Why has mountain xpress gone to this background? Hard to read online. And writing comments is almost impossible against a black background.Coorecting spelling mistakes hard.

Background looks the same to me as it always has. Maybe it’s your computer, or maybe you’re having a stroke.

If you click on the lightbulb icon at the top right-hand corner of the page, you can go back to the regular background.

Hi Curious, We haven’t changed the website. I suspect you may have turned on night mode. On the homepage, there is a lightbulb symbol at the top right hand corner of the window, next to the sign in button. You may need to toggle that lightbulb button to return to the standard theme.

Curious is right about night mode having contrast issues though – i noticed them too. As a web developer in the federal gvt anything I build must pass strict accessibility rules, but everyone putting stuff out there should try their best regardless, as it’s the right thing to do. Recommend running your site against the aXe chrome extension regularly to assist in making sure your site is as accessible as possible – it can run a pretty complete audit & give you a list of what you can do to make the site work better for everyone.

        lol, ‘Curious is right…’

The chicken suppliers they use have been the subject of several videos that show proof of HORRENDOUS cruelty and torture to what are actually very intelligent creatures. When men get over their idiotic connection with meat as a MANLY thing to eat, the world will be a better place. Also, nobody cares about sexual orientation? Maybe, but it’s about the corporate, not the local. It all goes into the same till. I WILL NOT give my hard-earned money to bigots…don’t care how good their food is said to be.
