School district consolidation surveys open, meetings begin Monday, Sept. 9

News release from Buncombe County:
Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, community members, parents, school staff, and students can drop in at any one of nine school system consolidation feasibility study meetings across the county. Designed so that attendees can participate in 30 minutes or less at the time that works best for them, input at these sessions will help inform the report that will go to the N.C. General Assembly in February 2025. Through Sept. 30, any parent, educator, community member, or high school student can also participate through online surveys.

  • Monday, Sept. 9 – 3:45-6:30 p.m. – Owen Middle, 730 Old US Hwy 60, Swannanoa
  • Tuesday, Sept. 10 – 3:45-6:30 p.m. – East Asheville Library, 3 Avon Road, Asheville
  • Thursday, Sept. 12 – 3:45-6:30 p.m. – Cane Creek Middle, 570 Lower Brush Creek Road, Fletcher
  • Friday, Sept. 13 – 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. – Weaverville Community Center, 60 Lakeshore Drive, Weaverville
  • Monday, Sept. 16 – 3:45-6:45 p.m. – Isaac Dickson Elementary, 125 Hill St., Asheville
  • Tuesday, Sept. 17 – 3:30-6:30 p.m. – Erwin High, 60 Lees Creek Road, Asheville

Background:
In September of 2023, the North Carolina General Assembly mandated that the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems jointly study the feasibility of a merger and designated Buncombe County as the lead entity for this project.
