Smart Bets: Southern Sirens Songwriters Showcase

Inspired by Laura Blackley’s “Southern Sirens” radio program on WNCW, Asheville singer-songwriter Sparrow Pants brings an all-star band of local female talent to The Mothlight on Thursday, April 12. The Southern Sirens Songwriters Showcase features The Resonant Rogues’ accordion and banjo player alongside cellist Melissa Hyman (The Moon and You), guitarist Ashley Heath (Ashley Heath and Her Heathens) and Cynthia McDermott on mandolin. All four women will take turns singing their original songs. “This has been an incredibly fulfilling concert to put together,” Pants says. “So many women musicians are surrounded by guys all the time and aren’t given full appreciation as both instrumentalists and songwriters.” The evening begins at 8:30 p.m. with a set of original and traditional mountain music by The Forget Me Nots. $8. themothlight.com.
