Allison Dains, a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional who has been working in various roles in Buncombe County over the last 25 years, has been tapped to lead the Buncombe County Parks and Recreation Department. Dains has been with the City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department for the last 19 years after having worked with the YWCA of Asheville, the Girl Scouts of WNC Pisgah Council, and Camp Woodson. Dains holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Social Science – Outdoor Recreation from Unity College in Unity, Maine.
During her time with the City of Asheville as a focus area manager, Dains managed multi-million dollar budgets, large teams, and a complex network of community centers, pools, sports courts, and athletic fields. Dains also brings experience establishing and guiding long-range planning, a key skill as Buncombe County continues to work with the community to develop its 2042 Comprehensive Plan.
“I’m thrilled to take the lessons I’ve learned in Asheville and use them to support programs across Buncombe County,” said Dains. “Buncombe County’s Parks and Recreation has so much to offer residents, and I can’t wait to work with a team who I already know to be strong and passionate about what they do.”
“Allison brings a great portfolio, great enthusiasm, and she knows our community,” said Assistant County Manager DK Wesley. “She’s going to be a tremendous asset to Buncombe County.”
Dains’ first day with Buncombe County is May 2, 2022.
