Asheville Community Yoga takes a person to person approach for a winter warmth drive

Press release from Asheville Community Yoga:

This weekend, teachers and students from Asheville Community Yoga will be walking downtown to offer a warm pair of gloves, scarf or hat along with a warm smile and conversation to anyone in need—taking their mission of creating community outside of the studio and onto the street.

Each month, Asheville Community Yoga reaches out to the surrounding community to find ways to volunteer and give back through their monthly service projects. Throughout the month of January, the nonprofit center in North Asheville has been collecting donations of new or gently used gloves, hats and scarves from students, teachers and other community members.

On Sunday, Jan. 24, a large group of the nonprofit’s students, teachers and staff members will gather downtown to practice compassionate communication with people on the streets of Asheville by offering them the warmth of companionship along with handing out the cold-weather items.

“We will be practicing yoga in its truest form, as we share heart-to-heart with compassion and loving-kindness, building a sense of community outreach and greater awareness and empathy for one another,” Community Service Coordinator Wendy Mallett said.
