Asheville’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced that it will hold a series of public meetings beginning July 30 to discuss and solicit feedback on the development of the master plan for the Linwood Crump Shiloh Recreation Center in South Asheville.
The Shiloh Center, located at 121 Shiloh Road, was formerly the Shiloh Elementary School. The city of Asheville acquired the rights to the property in 1977 and officially purchased it in 1997, according to a press release sent out by the Parks & Recreation Department. Since the purchase, the city has made improvements to the facility, which features a public gymnasium, weight room and kitchen among other amenities.
Improvements have also been proposed to the surrounding six-acre park, which includes playground, tennis court, ball field, basketball court, and walking trail on the property.
The first public meeting will be held at the Shiloh Center on July 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss proposed facility and program upgrades at the site. Residents can also offer public comments on the proposed facility and program upgrades online at ashevillenc.gov/parks between July 30 and August 28.
The second public meeting, also held at the Shiloh Center, will focus on the concept drawing. This meeting is planned for January 14, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Residents will again have the chance to offer comments online at ashevillenc.gov/parks and the Shiloh Center.

Public Input Series begins July 30, 2015ASHEVILLE, NC – The City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of public meetings and participation opportunities to gain public feedback in the development of the Linwood Crump Shiloh Center Master Plan, located at 121 Shiloh Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
Several opportunities for public participation in the recreation center master plan will be offered. All meetings are located at the center.
Public Meeting #1 Facility and Program Input: July 30, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Public comment also accepted online July 30 – August 28 atashevillenc.gov/parks, and at the Shiloh Center.
Public Meeting #2 Concept Drawing Comment: January 14, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Public comment also accepted online January 14 – February 12 atashevillenc.gov/parks, and at the Shiloh Center.
The Linwood Crump Shiloh Center is a two-story, 21,200 square foot building including a gymnasium, multipurpose room, library, classrooms, weight room, kitchen, storage, office, restrooms, outdoor patio. The six-acre park consist of a playground, tennis court, ball field, basketball court, restrooms, walking trail, and parking.
The center is the former Shiloh Elementary School. The City of Asheville acquired the property in a lease agreement in 1977 with Buncombe County Schools to be used as a public recreation Center, and later purchased it in 1997. Over the years the city made improvements to the center and surrounding park including the addition of a gymnasium and playground; improvements to the ball field, parking and lighting; added an outdoor patio and walking trail, and replaced the roof. The gymnasium constructed in the mid-1970s was recently renovated to bring it up to the standards of a modern public gym.
