From a press release:
Asheville Youth Mission’s “Many Voices” at The Mill Room, May 4
Asheville Youth Mission’s Many Voices drama company announces its fourth original production, WHAT DID YOU SAY?! debuting Sunday, May 4, 4:00 & 7:00pm at The Mill Room, 66 Asheland Ave.
Rumors are spreading around Central High School. What started out as a little prank upon the “typical prey” of the school has now become an all out war of gossip and accusations. What will happen when the whole truth comes out?!
Many Voices is a drama company of the local non-profit, Asheville Youth Mission. Each year Many Voices gathers a cast of local teenagers and asks these questions: “What issues are important to you?” and “What do you want to say to your peers and the community?” Following a period of discernment, the cast develops an original one act stage production. The group then shifts from theme development to rehearsing the show. Now the time has come for the cast to debut their newest creation.
This is the fourth original production for Many Voices. Building on the successes of their previous shows, The Strength In Me, Behind the Scenes, and Not Alone, the drama company is taking advantage of its considerable musical talent within this year’s cast. Using comedy, drama, accompanied music, and a cappella music, the group will artistically depict daily life in high school as they explore issues such as bullying, dating, friendship, and how teens treat each other.
Every Many Voices show concludes with a conversation between the cast and the audience. Audience members may ask questions to be fielded by a character or by an actor. An accompanying curriculum is available for youth groups attending the show.
