Press release from the McDowell County Health Coalition:
The community is invited to join the Blue Ridge Recovery Rally on Saturday, May 18, for a family-friendly celebration and to give support to those in recovery from addiction.
The Third Annual Blue Ridge Recovery Rally will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in downtown Marion, NC. The rally is an opportunity to put this years theme into action, “Recover, Together, Forever.” This free, family-friendly event will kick off at 8 a.m. with a free 5k run/walk and include local entertainment, churches, children’s activities, personal recovery stories, and free BBQ and t-shirts.
Nonprofits, health care providers and community organizations will be in attendance with information on local resources and support services for those who have been affected by addiction, while students and community organizations will be providing entertainment.
“The Health Coalition’s Substance Use Work Group has identified substance use disorder as one of the leading public health issues in McDowell County, without community support, folks will continue to fall into a miserable cycle of isolation and despair”, said Danny Hampton, Executive Director of Freedom Life Ministries and key event organizer. “The Recovery Rally is for the entire community, including those in recovery and community members who wish to show their support or learn more.”
The Rally is being sponsored by multiple agencies, businesses, and organizations including Vaya Health, New Horizon Baptist Fellowship, RHA Health Services, the City of Marion, West Marion Community Forum, Pharr Chapel AME Zion Church, Freedom Life Ministries, McDowell County Health Coalition, Carolina Chiropractic, Celebrate Recovery, Columbia Forest Products, Marion Police Department, McDowell County Sheriffs Office, McDowell Technical Community College and many others.
