In collaboration with compliance experts and Hemp Magik, hemp industry professionals will present a panel and informational session on April 16, 2019 from 1 P.M – 4 P.M. Panelists and presenters will include: the Executive Director of the North Carolina Hemp Association, Blake Butler; Tennessee Hemp Grower, Tammy Rodriguez; Director and Lab Manager from USBSL, Amanda Vickers and Rolando Boye; Biochemist Davis Collins; the first legal female CBD extractor in North Carolina, Melissa Lee Clark; Microbiologist Andrew Capps; published author and biomedical scientist, Michelle Shine; Cannabis Educator and Registered Nurse, Blair Wirkkala; Industry Trainer in Food, Beverage, and Natural Products, and Research Assistant Margaret Bloomquist of NCSU New Crops and Organics.
Andrew Capps is the former Chief Microbiologist and Quality Assurance Specialist of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services: Food and Drug Protection. He had this to say about safety and standards in the hemp industry, “ While FDA and USDA are actively working on the new Farm Bill regulations, it is vitally important for hemp producers and processors to ready themselves in understanding common hazards in hemp and the current practices used by the agriculture, food, and pharmaceutical industries, in order to ensure safe and legal products are being produced. This much needed educational session will provide the framework for the NC hemp industry to be prepared for forthcoming regulations and to set standards that offer a competitive advantage.”
In response to the hemp industry’s rapid growth, the need for higher safety and quality standards is being recognized and met by local industry professionals. Presenters and panelists will cover topics such as: the importance of safety and quality assurance in hemp production, safety and quality assurance methods like Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), Current Good Manufacturing Practices, (CGMP), Pharmaceutical CGMP, and ISO-accredited labs, cytochrome p450 system and potential drug interactions. This forum is an offering to hemp industry professionals who are interested in learning the resources available to them in order to
