Press release
From Hi-Wire Brewing:
Asheville, NC: Hi-Wire Brewing has partnered with Helene Herbert from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Asheville chapter of Team in Training to help fight blood cancers.
On Tuesday, August 6, the brewery will donate 15% of its proceeds to Herbert’s Team in Training campaign. “It’s extremely generous of them,” said Herbert. “One of the amazing things about this city is the willingness of business owners to support worthy causes, and I’m thrilled Hi-Wire is supporting LLS.”
Now entering its 25th year, Team in Training helps raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s cancer research through participation in Endurance Sports Programs such as triathlons, century rides, and marathons. The money raised by TNT participants has enabled LLS to fund millions of dollars of research to help advance new treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and provide critical education and support to cancer patients and their families.
Herbert, 28, will run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Savannah on November 9th along with other members of Team in Training. “This is my first full marathon, so it is intimidating, but it is exciting to be running with Team in Training again.”
She first became involved with Team in Training through a friend who is a cancer survivor. “My best friend Darrel is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, and we celebrated the 5-year anniversary of his clean bill of health by running the 2012 Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati together,” said Herbert. “I ran with ‘Darrel is my Hero’ painted on my jersey. It was great to support him, and even more rewarding for both of us to become involved with Team in Training.”
Herbert’s individual fundraising campaign for this race has already exceeded 50% of its goal, and will continue through October. The Hi-Wire fundraising night will take place in the brewery’s tasting room at 197 Hilliard Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 from 4:00pm until Midnight.
