Meditations on nature at Cotton Mill Studios

Basketmaker Matt Tommey and painter Victoria Pinney showcase their work and inspirations from nature. The show opens on Thursday, June 25, 5-8 p.m. ay The Cotton Mill Studios.

Press release from the artists:

Thursday, June 25,2015 5:00pm-8:pm
The Cotton Mill Studios, 122 Riverside Dr

Artists Matt Tommey and Victoria Pinney share their art and how the beauty of nature moves them to create.

Matt’s handcrafted baskets are a whimsical collaboration of traditional techniques and wild, rustic, natural materials including vines (kudzu, honeysuckle, bittersweet, wisteria, grapevine) and bark (poplar, hickory, mimosa and others). His most recent work focuses on sculptural basket art vessels using a combination of bark and vines, metal and encaustic wax. Every basket begins with a walk in the woods.

Victoria paints with oil – supplemented by elements of the earth – wax, sand, pigment – to create her densely layered, textural works.

Both artists have working studios in the River Arts District and are members of RADA and The WNC Design Guide.
