ASHEVILLE, N.C. (November 9, 2016) – Mission Hospital has earned recognition as one of the nation’s Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, a leading authority on clinical quality.
Mission Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the Carolinas to receive the recognition. It marks Mission Hospital’s remarkable eleventh time on the list.

Remarkably fast access to emergency care is just one example of the exceptional service provided by the team at Mission Hospital and the Mission Heart program. When a patient comes to Mission Hospital with a heart attack, it takes on average only 42 minutes to reopen the blood vessel causing the heart attack. Mission’s performance is less than half the national benchmark of 90 minutes. No hospital in the region, and only a few hospitals in the nation, have a performance comparable to Mission Hospital. Mission Hospital performs more than 4,900 cardiac catheterizations, more than 1,800 interventional procedures (angioplasties or stents) and 1,000 open heart surgeries annually among the top 10 percent of the nation.
The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study is an annual, objective, quantitative study that identifies the nation’s best providers of cardiovascular care, based on publicly available data and a balanced look at clinical, operational, and financial performance metrics. The study is a part of the Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals® program. Hospitals do not apply and winners do not pay to market their honor.
According to Truven Health Analytics, study winners delivered better outcomes while operating more efficiently and at a lower cost. In fact, if all cardiovascular providers performed at the level of this year’s winners (when compared to a peer group):
· More than 9,000 additional lives could be saved.
· Over 6,000 more heart patients could be complication-free.
· More than $1.4 billion could be saved.
This analysis was based on Medicare patients. If the same standards were applied to all patients, the impact would be far greater.
