NewTown brings Kentucky bluegrass to Burnsville

PRESS RELEASE:

NewTown performs Saturday, October 8th at the Burnsville Town Center at 7:30 p.m. The quintet, known for their superb vocals and super-hot pickin’, is fronted by award-winning vocalist/fiddler Kati Penn Williams and her singing, banjo-picking husband, Jr. Williams. Rounding out the group are guitarist/vocalist Hayes Griffin, Yancey NC Native mandolinist Mitchell Cannon, and bassist/vocalist Travis Anderson. Additional information can be found on burnsvilletowncenter.com.

While Kati’s singing brings to mind Dale Ann Bradley, Alison Krauss or Lee Ann Womack, her voice is all her own. A talented fiddler, she recently won the 2016 Lexington Music Award award for “Best Artist in Performance – Strings.” Jr., meanwhile, is often compared to Chris Stapleton, a rough- around-the-edges Dan Tyminski, or a gritty Larry Sparks. On the banjo, Jr. evokes the spirit of Earl Scruggs and his tasteful licks add to the pulse of the rhythm section.

The group is a festival circuit favorite, and their combined decades of experience are the reason why. These pickers wear their roots on their sleeves; saluting the traditions of Bluegrass while exploring Newgrass horizons. With musicians offering backgrounds in Jazz and Country, the group is experimenting with new sounds and energy. The result is a dynamic show that is an across-the-board crowd pleaser.

NewTown joined Carrie Underwood, Chris Young, Brett Eldredge and more for the September 5 launch of a new, 30-minute entertainment series dubbed NASHVILLE INSIDER. The band’s segment includes an interview and performance footage during their CD release party at Nashville’s legendary Station Inn. The show reaches well over 100 MILLION households via Heartland TV, The Family Channel, AMG TV, AngelTwo/Dish TV, Keep It Country (UK) and Country TV (New Zealand).

NewTown’s CD, HARLAN ROAD (Mountain Home Music Company), which debuted at # 8 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart, brings hard-traveled backroad tales to life Produced by multi-Grammy Award winner Barry Bales, the 11-track outing, released July 8, combines fresh, down-to-earth songs, complex instrumentation and mesmerizing vocals that offer listeners a feast for the senses.
