“Take Two” jazz at White Horse on Monday, Jan. 5

From a press release:

“Take Two” jazz at White Horse on Monday, Jan. 5

“Take Two: Jazz Duets at the White Horse Black Mountain” enters its second year this year with a good deal of momentum and a brand new lineup.

“Take Two” is unique in putting WNC’s A-list jazz musicians out front, alone, with just piano accompaniment, spotlighting each individual’s artistry in a valuable way. This year’s roster is full of talented area musicians (one different instrument each month). Holding this series on Mondays has sent the message: “it’s all about the music,” which we are confident you will find phenomenal. We have been recording performances and will release them as a series patterned after Concord’s “Live at Maybeck” piano series.

Monday, January 5

Take Two: Bill Bares
+ Michael W. Davis, Drums
+ special guest Zack Page (bass)

White Horse Black Mountain, 7:30-9:30 pm
$12 / $6 students

When he returns to the Big Apple later this month, Asheville’s music scene will be losing a BIG talent in MIchael W. Davis. Anyone who has played with Michael knows that he can play intelligently at any tempo and has drum muscles in places where most people don’t even have places. His technique enables him to let his fertile imagination run wild on the bandstand, yet he’s clearly invested in swinging and playing sensitively behind soloists. I love playing with Michael most because he’s a consummate professional and an avid listener… he thinks orchestrationally and compositionally on the drums. If you haven’t made it out to Take Two thus far, I suggest you make the trip out to the White Horse to hear this sensational musician in his element. Bassist Zack Page will join on a few select tunes in order to pay tribute before Davis leaves town.
