Here is the full release from Pisgah Brewing:
Pisgah Brewing Company of Black Mountain, NC is no stranger to the funk: having welcomed such greats as Maceo Parker, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and many more across the 6 years of Outdoor Stage shows in the brewery’s back yard and countless events in the taproom, Pisgah is a regular connoisseur of the New Orleans born genre. On Saturday, May 16th Pisgah will welcome The Funky Meters alongside Earphunk and George Porter Jr. and the Runnin’ Pardners for a festival-like daylong event on the Pisgah Brewing Outdoor Stage, and $2 from every ticket will go to benefit local non-profits Funding America Through Entertainment (FATE) and LEAF Community Arts.
The Funky Meters were birthed at New Orleans Jazz Festival in 1989, when an impromptu jam with The Meters’ founding members Art Neville and George Porter Jr., alongside Russel Battiste Jr., unearthed the soul and passion behind the music of one of the most important bands of the modern funk era. Though The Meters disbanded in the 80’s for business purposes, Art Neville and George Porter Jr. continue the legendary music with their current Funky Meters line-up including Brian Stoltz on guitar and Terrance Houston on drums. New Orleans’ newest sensation, Earphunk, joins the line-up in the midst of increasing national attention and an upcoming new studio album release. George Porter Jr. will also perform with his group, George Porter Jr. and the Runnin’ Pardners.
Like many events at the Pisgah Brewing Outdoor Stage, $2 from every ticket goes towards local non-profits FATE and LEAF Community Arts. The two local initiatives are some of Pisgah’s largest beneficiaries annually, FATE focusing on Hunger Relief in the communities they campaign, while LEAF Community Arts develops programming to support arts education and connecting cultures globally. “Since our founding 20 years ago, LEAF Community Arts has always held a deep passion for New Orleans music, art, & culture. The rich and vibrant legacy of NOLA traditions remains a deep source of inspiration you can find at the heart of every LEAF Festival. We are deeply honored to team up with Pisgah & Fate to showcase these incredible New Orleans performers – Many of which have played at LEAF Festival before and will certainly return in the very near future…”
The event on Saturday, May 16th is $27 in advance, $32 day of sale and features a unique VIP package for $60 which includes a family-style New Orleans seafood boil, a guided brewery tour and tasting, private viewing area, private bar, event poster and more.
