From a press release:
TheatreUNCA Presents The Muckle Man, Nov. 20-23
The Muckle Man, which combines elements of science fiction, drama, thriller and folklore, and involves a family, a squid and a mythical man from the sea, will be directed by UNC Asheville drama major Olivia Medoff. “The fusion of genres makes this play unique to direct,” says Medoff, “Because this play is very abstract and has the ocean as one of its key characters, my staging works a lot with fluidity. I have encouraged the designers to go in a surrealist, minimalist direction, because in my opinion, the script and characters speak for themselves.”
Playwright of The Muckle Man, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, has expressed his fertile imagination in varied media, writing for the TV hits Glee and Big Love, and comics, authoring Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and the zombie-filled Afterlife with Archie issues. He was the screenwriter for two recent cinematic remakes, Carrie, and The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
The cast will include UNC Asheville students Kyle Blank, Justin Day, Kieran Duffy, Annie Lyon, Alexa Morreale, Wesley Stroupe and Adam Wise.
Tickets are $12 for the public, $10 for senior citizens, and $7 for students and members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Tickets can be purchased online at drama.unca.edu, by phone at 828.232.2291 or at the box office, which opens 90 minutes before curtain.
