In preparation for their grand opening as a standalone shop in downtown Asheville, Trade and Lore Coffee will offer a taste of their product to the public with a pop-up residency at Horse + Hero, from November 16th through 30th. The art and design shop and creative hub is located at 14 Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville will provide space for Trade and Lore to run a hand-brewed coffee bar. With drinks available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, customers may enjoy a delectable, handcrafted cup of coffee along with the handmade wares of community artists.
The business will feature specialty coffee and offer a people-first mentality, with a focus on the support and empowerment of women in the coffee community and industry. Customers can expect a variety of
beverages that include espresso drinks, hand brewed coffee, and teas. The shop will feature a seasonal drink menu, with all proceeds from one drink donated to a different nonprofit each month. Light fare food options will include artisanal toasts, pastries, and more.
Trade and Lore will serve not only as a coffee shop, but a community space. Community outreach and nonprofits will be able to host lectures, discussions, and events in the store. Pop-up markets will provide a venue for local small businesses, artists, and craftspeople to sell their products. Trade and Lore will also host coffee events such as educational classes, cuppings, and latte art competitions.
Owners Sarah Winkler, Lindsey Pitman, and Brock Kehoe contribute years of specialty coffee and entrepreneurial experience to Trade and Lore. Pitman owns Charlotte’s acclaimed Daily Press specialty coffee shop and holds over a decade of industry experience. Kehoe’s business experience includes launching new restaurants. Winkler, a graduate of UNC Asheville’s sociology department and former barista at Waking Life Espresso, combines her background in specialty coffee with passion for community outreach to offer Trade and Lore’s people-first business model.
“Quality, equality, and inclusivity excite us most about bringing this shop together,” says Winkler. “We want to include our community in what drives not only our passions, but passions of our community that inspire us. Each owner brings their own vision to Trade and Lore, and what unites us is coffee.”
