Asheville Food Fights’ hugely successful Asheville Wing War will soon be joined by a new installment in the series of annual culinary throw-downs to raise money for local charities: the WNC Battle of the Burger.
Only 15 local restaurants will be allowed to compete for the title of Best Burger in WNC in the event, which is scheduled for 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel downtown. Three bands will take the stage while competitors cook outdoors on grills on the hotel grounds.
So far, Ambrozia, Farm Burger, Mojo Kitchen and Lounge, King James Public House and The Social have accepted their nominations for the contest, but 10 more competitors are needed. The winner will qualify to participate in the World Food Championships to be held in Las Vegas in November.
A limited number of You Be the Judge tickets will be available for $30 each that include unlimited burger samples and beer from Sierra Nevada and Pisgah Brewing. General admission is $5 per person; children younger than 12 will get in free. Organizers are still deciding which local charity will benefit from the fundraiser. More details to come.
Nominate your favorite local burger joint by commenting on the Asheville Food Fights Facebook page or by emailing lushlifemgmt@gmail.com.
UPDATE: BT’s Burger Joint, The Vault and Ben’s Tune-Up have also joined the lineup.
UPDATE 7/17: Competitors now also include Farm to Fender, Buffalo Nickel and Pack’s Tavern.
