Letter: Oligarchy and its effect on us in NC

Graphic by Lori Deaton

We are living under an oligarchy, which is a group “that exercises control, especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.”

The best example of that is the Trump/GOP health plan to replace Obamacare. It will kick 24 [million] citizens off of health care insurance. It raises premiums for the older, seniors, poor and disabled by 750 percent. It cuts Medicaid funding by $880 billion. It gives the rich a near trillion dollar tax cut over the next decade. It gives to the states the right to waive out of Obamacare’s ban on [denying coverage for] pre-existing conditions. And it cuts some essential benefits. …

This bill is written to help the rich and healthy young, but not the rest of us. This is oligarchy, which Trump and the Republicans want to force on us all. God help us all.

  1. The Real World

“We are living under an oligarchy,” — Ya, Lloyd….since at least 1913, if not before.

Nevermind political parties, the elites transcend those and use them like tools to get the results they want. While the plebeians dicker over whatever manufactured distractions our “aristocracy” toss out to keep our eyes off of what they’re doing. Unfortunately, that strategy has worked all too well for them…..and for a long time.

Time to wake-up America and stop taking their bait.

LOL and yet won’t call out the local one. Here let me help you:

    Van Winkle
    River Link
    Art Museum
    Brownie Newman/solar scam
    Duke Energy

The above either have influence or are directly subsidized by tax payers.

Nailed it! Especially Riverlink and Highlands….they certainly are evil and represent the oligarchy definition of a group “that exercises control, especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.”

  3. Lloyd George Kay: “It will kick 24 [million] citizens off of health care insurance.”

Interesting point this Democrat writer makes.

How many of those “24 [million]” didn’t want health insurance and were forced to get it under pain of penalty?

Is this based on a static analysis or a dynamic analysis?

Is health insurance the same thing as health care?
