Okay, so by now you know that tomorrow is Dining Out For Life — an event held around the country. For local organization Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP), the Asheville DOFL is a major annual fundraiser. Money raised from DOFL (that's 20-percent of the bill for each diner, breakfast, lunch and dinner, at 100 participating restaurants) funds HIV/AIDS awareness and education in our area as well as services for those living with HIV/AIDS.
So, that's the business — here's the fun:
After all that hard work, eating meals and hanging out in one (or more) of a hundred great restaurants, it's time to celebrate DOFL and WNCAP with the Appreciation After Party Gala at The Grove House (11 Grove St., Asheville, 505-1612).
On Thursday, April 29, starting at 7 p.m., the Grove House opens with three floors of entertainment. Highlights include:
• Jazz and Broadway music by Katie Kasben and Aaron Price at 8 p.m. in Eleven on Grove.
• Performance art by Jim Julien at 9:30 in the Boiler Room.
• Comedy from Michael Roach, Becca Steinhoff, Katie Hughes and more at 9:40 p.m. in the Boiler Room.
• Asheville Community Theatre presents a mini-production of "Little Shop of Horrors at 11 p.m. in Scandals.
• Latin/indie-pop by Pavane & Galliard in the Boiler Room at 11:20.
• A midnight drag performance by Cookie LaRue and Ashleigh Adams in Scandals.
• Burlesque in the Boiler Room at 12:30 a.m.
Cover is $5, but admission is free with a receipt from a DOFL restaurant. Even better: 20-percent of all sales at the Grove House will also be donated to WNCAP.
