Asheville High School Band presents: A free community holiday concert & craft fair
Proceeds from the craft fair support the students’ educational spring trip
Asheville, NC – The award-winning Asheville High School band is pleased to invite the public to celebrate the joyous sounds of the season, as well as the talented craftsmanship of the musicians and their families, with its annual Holiday Symphony Concert & Craft Fair. Under the direction of Will and Emily Talley, the festive event takes place in the historic main building of Asheville High School.
This year’s program showcases upbeat and traditional favorites, such as a medley entitled “Joyful All Ye Nations,” “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” “Hanukah Celebration” and fun new tunes like “Cowboy Christmas.” Tessa Kvalvik, one of the band’s multi-talented drum majors, will sing a beautiful carol for the crowd.
Asheville is known for its highly creative residents, and AHS band members are no different. Students and their families have been working on items for the craft fair for weeks. Items for sale this year include: hand-crafted jewelry, baked good, truffles, stained glass and other ornaments, flavored olive oil, scarves, hats, gift boxes, candles and more.

“This will be my 15th year directing a Holiday Concert at Asheville High. It’s such a special time of year! Just like most adults, our students are very busy in December. The fact that they find time to master these fun, but challenging, holiday favorites, as well as contribute such creativity to the craft fair, reminds me just how important and rewarding our band trips are to the kids. They are really willing to work for it,” says band director and Asheville City Schools 2013 Teacher of the Year, Will Talley.
As part of the band’s trip to Florida this April, the students will have the opportunity to perform for and attended a clinic with Dr. Scott Tobias, Director of Bands at the University of Central Florida.
